Ryan Penny June 6, 1980 – November 1, 2003
How
to Get Here Turn right on the third by-road in Eastport by the postal
boxes...called Penny's Road. The garden is just a few feet ahead on the
right. Ryan’s
Memory Garden in Eastport has 23 flowerbeds, one for each year of his
precious life. The 23rd one
is heart-shaped and Chantelle’s surprise really was a surprise. It proved to have many beautiful blooms all
summer with a variety of bulbs and Irish wildflowers. No doubt, each bulb and flower was bought
and planted with love. The garden is about 80 ft.
x 30 ft. and, in the center, is a waterfall and a sitting area. A walkway
goes completely around the outside of the garden and a person can stroll
between the flowerbeds. Adding to the garden’s beauty are the plants and trinkets
that family and friends have brought.
Everyone that drops by seems to want to add something for Ryan. We have seen many visitors from all over
Newfoundland who are in awe of the relaxing spot we have made in his memory. We have certainly
enjoyed sitting in the garden listening to the waterfall and reading or
talking to our friends who stop by. We love to light the fireplace and sit in
the garden and have a Black Horse for Ryan. We can almost hear Ryan’s whistle! He’s saying, “yeah, Martha Stewart, you did
a good job.”
